'Little Red Cap' is a fashion short, a dark, gothic and twisted adaptation of the Brother's Grimm's Fairytale, Little Red Cap. Inspired by Catherine Hardwicke's 'Red Riding Hood', I focused on the forest scene, creating a romantic tale of forbidden love between Red and the Wolf. Shot on a Canon 5D mkII.

RAPUNZEL

After a long 3 years at Nottingham Trent I finally feel my photographic work now has a direction! As it has been recently pointed out to me, within these 3 years my style has developed into something i am proud of.

For my final year project/degree show I have started an ongoing project based on the Grimm's fairytales. I have produced a large A1 booklet that photographically narrates the tale Rapunzel. This is a project I wish to continue, building up a large personal portfolio of work that photographically adapts all the Grimm's fairytales into dark, gothic and theatrical 'picture-books'.

My work focus on the theatrical lighting, cinematic camera angles and body language, facial expressions. Strongly interested and influenced by 'childhood' nostalgia, fairytales appeal to me as they allow your mind to drift and accept the fantastical worlds. Magical Realism is the idea of a unique and extraordinary reality and a disregard for the traditional and realistic perspectives, and so delves into the explanations of the subconscious and unconscious mind. Inspired by the gothic and romantic elements portrayed through art, my enchanted project is a magical and haunting adaptation of the Grimm’s Fairy Tale Rapunzel. An exploration of colour, movement, and theatrical fantasy, my narrative infused imagery is a youthful portrayal of the unknown. Having always maintained an interest between the relationship of dance and photography, I admire the body’s unique form and expressive movements. The fantastical characters’ of these famous stories physically portray their emotions and personality through melodramatic body language and facial expressions.
