VIDEOS

Below are a couple links to my recents films created in 2011. The first, 'The Fun House Ghost' is a dark short film situated within a 'fun house' of garish colours, haunted by an unnerving, unheard and unseen presence. Shot on a canon 5D mk II.

'Little Red Cap' is a fashion short, a dark, gothic and twisted adaptation of the Brother's Grimm's Fairytale, Little Red Cap. Inspired by Catherine Hardwicke's 'Red Riding Hood', I focused on the forest scene, creating a romantic tale of forbidden love between Red and the Wolf. Shot on a Canon 5D mkII.

Red: Nicola Wright
Wolf: Imran Khan
Assistant: Scott Pickering
Location: Spook Wood

RAPUNZEL

After a long 3 years at Nottingham Trent I finally feel my photographic work now has a direction! As it has been recently pointed out to me, within these 3 years my style has developed into something i am proud of.

For my final year project/degree show I have started an ongoing project based on the Grimm's fairytales. I have produced a large A1 booklet that photographically narrates the tale Rapunzel. This is a project I wish to continue, building up a large personal portfolio of work that photographically adapts all the Grimm's fairytales into dark, gothic and theatrical 'picture-books'.

My work focus on the theatrical lighting, cinematic camera angles and body language, facial expressions. Strongly interested and influenced by 'childhood' nostalgia, fairytales appeal to me as they allow your mind to drift and accept the fantastical worlds. Magical Realism is the idea of a unique and extraordinary reality and a disregard for the traditional and realistic perspectives, and so delves into the explanations of the subconscious and unconscious mind. Inspired by the gothic and romantic elements portrayed through art, my enchanted project is a magical and haunting adaptation of the Grimm’s Fairy Tale Rapunzel. An exploration of colour, movement, and theatrical fantasy, my narrative infused imagery is a youthful portrayal of the unknown. Having always maintained an interest between the relationship of dance and photography, I admire the body’s unique form and expressive movements. The fantastical characters’ of these famous stories physically portray their emotions and personality through melodramatic body language and facial expressions.

WOLFE VON LENKIEWICZ

Lenkiewicz's oil paintings have really inspired my FYP! I love his visual adaptation of the book! Such a strong vivid imagination! I personally find his work BEAUTIFUL and STUNNING!
"Wolfe von Lenkiewicz's chief artistic concern is the appropriation of language and mythology. He boldly experiments with hybrid visual combinations that straddle the murky borders of the shocking and offensive. His art historical intervention demonstrates our own complacency of art towards famous images, namely those highly learnt visual compositions of art history. Our knowledge of them has become so much second nature that we take them for granted. It is not until they are disturbed that we realise how much confidence we place in them."

LEE FRIEDLANDER EXHIBITION

Going to photograph at the opening show tonight, If you're around London make a trip down to the Timothy Taylor Gallery.
   >>>
Lee Friedlander: America By Car & The New Cars 1964

1 September - 1 October 2011
Timothy Taylor Gallery is proud to announce an exhibition of two bodies of work by the influential and critically acclaimed American photographer Lee Friedlander, on display for the first time in the UK. This will be Friedlanderʼs first solo exhibition in London since his 1976 show at the Photographersʼ Gallery.
Lee Friedlander: America By Car charts numerous journeys made by the photographer during the last decade across most of the fifty US states. Shot entirely from the interiors of rental cars, typically from the driverʼs seat, Friedlander makes use of side and rearview mirrors, windscreens, and side windows as framing devices for a total of 192 images.
In America By Car, Friedlander uses the quintessential icons of US culture – cars and the open road – to explore contemporary America, revisiting in the process many of the places and strategies that he has incorporated into his practice throughout his career.
Functioning as an introduction to America by Car we are also very pleased to be simultaneously exhibiting The New Cars 1964 portfolio, also previously unseen in the UK.
Comprising of 33 works in total, The New Cars 1964 was the result of a commission for Harperʼs Bazaar to mark the unveiling of the much-anticipated new car models of that year: Chryslers, Buicks, Pontiacs and Cadillacs.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND

Me and Scott have been brainstorming ideas for my FYP next year, based around the same concept as my dissertation; Studying fashion, photography and film's inspiration from Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland".

It's one of my all time child-hood favourite stories. I have always loved and been inspired by Walt Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" (animation), and Tim Burton's recent adaptation was outstanding. I can't wait to get lost inside my own adaption of 'Wonderland'!

I will be creating my own adaption of Alice in Wonderland to produce a short fashion film.
Shot on location.
Exhibition will consist of a film and a magazine consisting of shots of all characters (included / excluded from the movie). Photographs will be shot on location (same as movie) and in a studio environment, portraying a wide selection of outfits and beauty.

...............................

Dissertation wise, i'm on the ball with my research!
Starting on a positive note! - Just hope it stays like this.
